A survey published by the Daily Mail showed that more women are becoming experts at DIY – 1,244 British women were questioned about their DIY habits, and 60% say they are now more likely to carry out home improvements than their partners, and half consider themselves handier than men.
The most common answer when asked why they’d taken up DIY was that “it’s the only way to get anything done!”. With an increase in divorce, single mother parenting and a rise in women home-owners, it’s no surprise that a wide majority are taking up DIY in their homes!
The increase in women in trade –
With more and more women having the confidence to work in a trade which has always been dominated by men, one online article has proved this – saying that between 2011 and 2012, B&Q reported a 400% increase in the number of women enrolling in their workshops! And according to a study of 10,000 workers, women now make up 6% of the UK’s builders, plumbers and plasterers.
